Swarma is a Wear OS companion app for Foursquare Swarm, developed by Paul Berens. This policy explains what data Swarma collects, why, and how it is handled.
What data Swarma collects
Precise location. When you tap "Find Nearby Venues," Swarma reads your device's GPS location and sends it to the Foursquare API to retrieve nearby venues. Location data is processed in real time and is not stored on your device or on any server controlled by the developer.
Foursquare authentication token. When you sign in through the companion phone app, a Foursquare OAuth token is stored on your watch so you don't need to sign in again. This token is also briefly held on the phone during the initial setup.
How data is used
Both data types are used solely for core app functionality: finding nearby venues and checking in to Foursquare Swarm. Swarma does not use your data for analytics, advertising, marketing, or personalization.
Third-party sharing
Location data and your authentication token are sent to the Foursquare API (operated by Foursquare Labs, Inc.) to perform venue searches and check-ins. No data is shared with any other third party. Foursquare's own privacy policy governs how they handle data received through their API: foursquare.com/legal/privacy.
Data storage and security
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). The OAuth token is stored locally on your watch. No user data is stored on any server controlled by the developer.
Data deletion
To remove your data from Swarma, open the companion phone app and sign out. This clears the OAuth token from both the phone and the watch. To delete your Foursquare account and associated check-in history, visit your account settings at foursquare.com.
Children's privacy
Swarma is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
